Join the Spring
Clean to make life brighter - Spring is here - and The News wants clubs
and groups to pitch in and help them brighten up their neighbourhoods. As part of this campaign the SSA are going to have a fore-shore and beach tidy around the Daedalus slipway area next Wednesday evening. Meet at Daedalus slipway at 6.30pm, Wed 2nd May. We look forward to seeing as many members as possible joining us down at the slip and pitching in to litter pick our patch!

Hot off the press
announcment. Andy Jackson, presenter of Wave 105's tea time show
announced on air this evening that he has been "roped in to jet ski all
the way round the Isle of Wight!" (much to the ammusement of his
co-presenters) by regular listener Bill, our very own Bill Kircher no
less! Andy will be taking
part in this year's charity cruise, the Wight Stuff on Saturday, July 21st
helping us raise our profile and raising money for the RNLI. He will be
circum-navigating the island astride a personal watercraft kindly donated
by the RYA and joined by a top RYA instructor through out. Andy told of how he's starting to get ready for the event with the assistance of Andark Diving and Watersports in Lower Swanick who have generously kitted him up with a wetsuit, boots and bouyancy aid earlier this afternoon. He said,"I came out of the dressing room with the wetsuit on, I've never worn a wetsuit in my life...and I thought, 'I look the dog's doodahs!' and then the assistant kindly told me I was wearing it back to front!" From the sounds of it we have a real challenge on our hands! Haha! But hey, we've all been newbies haven't we? Don't fret though, we'll be working on Andy during the weeks and months leading up to the event. The next part of his jet-ski adventure will be to undertake the RYA PWC course with Absolute Aqua in Poole and we thought it only fair that he meets up with the person "roping him in!" as early as possible so it'll be Bill, who is a fully qualified instructor, that will be putting him through his paces! Once trained we hope to give Andy as much jet-ski riding time as possible and join the club on some ride outs so he can get a feel for what its like ski-ing in a big group. 5th Anniversary Wight Stuff Cruise - Be part of it! T he Solent Skiers' Association is happy to announce that The Wight Stuff is being repeated for the Fifth consecutive year! The Wight Stuff is a charity event where a large group of jet-skiers circumnavigate 70 miles around the Isle of Wight in aid of the RNLI, launching from Lee-on-the-Solent and skiing clockwise around the island stopping at Sandown and Yarmouth before heading back to Lee. | SSA's Unsung Heroes get the recognition they deserve! | |

We all know what its like, we turn up at the slipway, say hi to everyone, have a coffee (sometimes even cake!), have a quick chat on where we're heading to before the military precision launch machine of the SSA kicks in to action, we hit the water and disappear for the day! Then there's the off water events that we all love so much through the year too. All this takes some organizing and the committee has noted several members putting in a lot of effort behind the scenes for the benefit of all. They're the "Unsung Heroes" of the SSA and we recognized them in a special awards ceremony at the AGM. All were presented with framed certificates by club chairperson Theresa Stubbs. It's partly due to the generous and unselfish actions of individuals that often go unnoticed or are taken for granted that makes the Solent Skiers the great club it is. So Sean Perry, Donna Jones, Denise Kircher and Jill Poulter we thank you! As well as his 'Unsung Hero Award', Sean (aka Tigger) was presented with an additional 'Certificate of Appreciation' for all the hard work he puts in organizing the on-line auction and raffle as part of the Wight Stuff charity cruise. | Jetman to write Daedalus article for Jetskier mag | |

Andy (don't call me Andy - my name's Jetman)
Mayne turned up unannounced at Daedalus slipway on Sunday with a view to
include our favorite launch site in Jetskier magazine's popular 'Where to
Ski' series. The Daedalus slipway at Lee-on-the -Solent was desolate
but luckily for Jetman a few of the SSA hardcore turned up and helped him
with his questions as well as posing for some photos! Look out for
the write up and 'focus on local riders'-Thumper, Johnny Bravo, Crazy Frog
and Gruffit in a future edition of the Mag (God help us!).

Well there was a full weekend of serious
jet-ski fun being had by all who attended the first event of its kind
to be held at
Jetskier Magazine editor, Spicer turned up and was very successful at being ejected at speed from Lagoona Park's race ready Hydrospace standup capable of over 60 mph! Look out for a full report and results from Spicer in April's Jetskier mag. SSA members who came away with trophies included Tom Dubaya, Bill Kircher, Graham Hollidge, Mark James, Duncan Johnstone and John Heath.
The event took place on the 24th & 25th
February and was co-organized by our very own SSA members Dave

| Jet-skiers' boost for RNLI | |

Lifeboat station says a big thank-you after massive cheque is handed over by water users group. A belated Christmas present meant a major new year boost for Portsmouth RNLI. The Solent Skiers Association (SSA) raised a whopping £6,830 for the Eastney based lifeboat station after a year's fund-raising activities. The cheque was handed over at a New Year's Eve ceremony at the Deadalus slipway, Lee-on-the-Solent.
Barry Taylor, Portsmouth Lifeboat Operations Manager, said: 'We are absolutely delighted with the cheque presented to us by the Solent Skiers Association, and the money will be put to good use in training new crew members and helmsmen. We thank all the members of the SSA for their fund-raising efforts and congratulate them on the amount raised - it is a great achievement.'
In July 58 jet-skiers took part in the 'Wight Stuff jet-ski marathon' - a 62 mile sponsored ride around the Isle of Wight. Cash raised went straight to the lifeboat station for crew training. Since 2003 the SSA have raised more than £13,500 for the RNLI.
John Feltham, of Portsmouth RNLI, said: 'Personal Watercraft users have had a lot of bad publicity in the past, but members of jet-ski groups like the SSA have raised their profile considerably. They deserve the highest praise for their conduct on the water and their fund-raising activities.'
