| Lifeboats get the Wight Stuff! | |
| 22/12/04 |
On Sunday 19th December the Solent
Skiers Association presented the RNLI with a cheque for £1,215.62
raised from their second annual ‘Wight Stuff’ event. The
event, held on Sunday 5th September this year saw thirty eight club members successfully
circumnavigate the Isle of Wight on Personal Watercraft and with the
sun shining and the sea calm, a memorable day was had by all. It
was both an enjoyable day out and a challenge with participants raising as much
money as possible for a cause that is very much close to home. This year’s event raised a total of £2,026.03 with 60% going to the RNLI. The remaining £810.41 will be presented to GAFIRS (Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service) over the holiday period. Neil Farnham-Smith, Treasurer of the Solent Skiers Association said, "We are delighted to have raised a total of £2,026.03 for charity with £1,215.62 going to the RNLI. Everyone that took part in the Wight Stuff had a fantastic time and the amount raised is a testament to the hard work put in by all involved. We look forward to raising even more money in June or July of next year when we do it all again and encourage as many people as possible to take part."
