Clacton Away!  Charity Cruise - Saturday 2nd July
June 2010

Clacton CWC is holding a charity cruise on Saturday 2nd of July.

CWC Coast Runners Sponsored Jet-ski Cruise will leave from Clacton on Sea and cross the Thames Estuary to Palm Bay in Kent for a lunch stop before returning back to Clacton for hog roast dinner.

Hopefully we will get local campsite details from the Clacton crew so we can all stay over in the same place.  It would be great if we can support this event as Clacton have always come in numbers to the south coast for ours.

The Thames Estuary offers a hugely different landscape (and sea conditions) to what we’re used to with sandbars way out at sea, hulking iron and concrete forts left from the 2nd Word War and the biggest offshore wind farm in Europe!

The round trip is estimated at 60-70 miles so is within cruising distance of most club craft although arrangements are in place for fuel top ups in Palm Bay if required.

Closing date for entries is 19th June so act fast and get your forms in!

Please see Clacton's website www.clactonwatercraftclub.org.uk

for more information, costs and event entry.

Dirty Don's Final Voyage, Sunday 26th June

“I’m afraid the time has finally come for Dirty Don to hang up his Gecko and give up jet skiing.  I think it’s fair to say he’s given it a good go as he’s been skiing for over 15 years. Don't worry though, he assures me that he'll still be around and popping down the slipway to say hello!  He’s planning (weather permitting) for his final trip out to be on Sunday 26th June and he’d like as many of his friends to go out too. Destination will be decided on the day, but you can guarantee there’ll be at least one coffee stop along the way.”

Early indications from Donna’s post on the SSA forum suggest that this may be the biggest event of the year!  It’s always sad when someone moves on from the club but Don has a special place in all of our hearts and has always been a true ambassador for the SSA and the sport.  We’ve tried to talk him out of retirement but the OAP fuel allowance can sadly no longer subsidise his ski-ing!  We hope as many members as possible will be able to join Don on his final cruise.

The Boys Did Good!  AquaX - SSA all the way!
May 2011 There was SSA success in the first ever series of endurance races in the new and exciting P1 AquaX as the series kicked off at Southampton Sportboat & Rib show on Sunday 22nd May.  All three Solent Skiers who entered made the podium! Mat Shipley came second in the Amateur 300 riding his Kawasaki 250 while Duncan Johnstone won the Amateur 200 on the Yamaha FX160 with Dave Lee coming third on his Kawasaki 15F. The weather on the day gave our boys the advantage as the Southerly Force 5 caused choppy sea conditions which some of the pro skiers struggled to cope with.

The P1 AquaX series is specifically designed to attract amateur riders to enter the sport, this unique sea-based series offers competitors a hugely exciting challenge. The race tracks will be simple and wide-open, and will be patrolled by trained race marshals to ensure safety at all times.

Head of P1 AquaX and former Jet Ski racing champion, Lisa Barsby, says; “We are delighted to be launching this new series. There are many recreational jetskiers out there who have wanted to try their hand at competitive riding for some time now, and AquaX will provide the perfect arena for them to open up their throttles and enjoy the full performance of their craft in a safe, controlled environment. And because of the ever-changing coastal conditions, the rider’s skill will prevail over horsepower, to create a level playing field for all.”

AquaX is open to all types of watercraft, with Yamaha, Kawasaki and BRP (Seadoo) models expected to race unmodified in two classes - 200 and 300hp – an attractive prize purse will be on offer for riders enrolled in the championship. Each two-day AquaX event will consist of two disciplines. Saturdays will see AquaX Match Racing, with competitors going head to head in a timed knock-out competition. On Sundays, the action will move to the P1 SuperStock race tracks, in a series of Rally Races where the focus switches to endurance riding and stamina over large courses.
