QHM's Jetski Safety Awareness Day
Saturday 6th May 2006
When Queens Harbourmaster Portsmouth, Commander K Carter came up with an idea to promote Safety and Awareness of Personal Watercraft within the harbour, members of the Solent Skiers Association were keen to help out. The day included on water freestyle displays by the Pierats Jetski Display Team and a number of landbased PWC and safety related stands.
It was a very grey and cold morning that 28 members of the SSA, joined by friends from CWC & JAWS clubs (as well as the Royal Navy, shhh! You aint seen me roite!) blasted along the Solent to Portsmouth Harbour to show our support.
Despite the weather the day was a huge success and helped raise the profile of responsible Personal Watercraft riders in the Dockyard Port area - this area spans from Hillhead and Cowes in the Western Solent along to Eastney and around the Isle of Wight as far as Sandown!.
The highlight of the day was the "Jetski Grand Parade". Over 40 craft took part in this procession around the harbour escorted by the Marine Police launch and Harbour Patrol vessels.
